Avalon Funeral Plan Review - Payment Options

Like the Golden Charter and Co op funeral plans, Avalon have a wide range of monthly funeral plan payment options including :

In Full / over 6 or 12 months The cheapest option and you don’t incur any additional fees if spreading your costs over 12 months

Instalments – Avalon offer instalments of between 1 and 10 years with a deposit that is dependent on the level of service you choose. Not the cheapest funeral plan instalment options on offer which is exacerbated by the initial price being so much higher when compared to other plan providers.

Fixed Monthly Payment Plan – This option is available for people between the ages of 50 and 80 with monthly premiums that are based on age and plan type payable until death or the plan anniversary date prior to your 90th birthday.

You are covered for your funeral services after two years but there is a chance that you could pay more in monthly premiums than the cash sum paid out; it all depends on how long you live.

How secure is the Avalon Plan

Avalon is registered with and regulated by the Funeral Planning Authority so therefore has to comply with their strict rules and code of conduct on the service you receive and most importantly how the money is held.

Your money is paid into a trust fund that is a completely separate entity to Avalon and audited annually.

Avalon Company - Review

Avalon has been established for over 20 years and until recent years were probably better known for providing European funeral plans for expats.

Our Verdict

There are two unique selling points for Avalon Funeral Plans. The first is the fact that it can be used in a number of European countries in the event that you decide to relocate or have a 2nd property.

So if you are considering a move to Spain or the Canaries, Portugal or Cyprus, this plan might be worth a look. The other unique thing about the Avalon Plan is that there is no threshold when it comes to transportation of the deceased; so you could die in Glasgow and still be brought back to Sheffield at no extra cost.

The thing is how many people die that far away from home and is it worth paying so much more for the plan in the first place just in case.

The Avalon plan is by no means the cheapest funeral plan; in fact it costs around £300 more than many of its competitors and it only provides a contribution for your cremation costs, so there could be more for your family to pay.

Our Recommendation

We recommend the Dignity Plan as they guarantee to fix ALL funeral costs listed in the plan which includes the funeral director's services and the cremation & ministers fees, so you can be sure that your family will have nothing more to pay.

You will never have to worry about rising funeral costs as they are guaranteed at the price you pay today - giving you peace of mind that everything is taken care of and when the time comes your family will only have to make one phone call.
