The deceased is taken directly to the crematorium in a van with no one in attendance for cremation. There is also a lower third party costs contribution of £840 so there could be more to pay and additional fees are incurred for the collection of the deceased from home

Golden Leaves Funeral Plan Review - Payment Options

You can pay for Golden Leaves Funeral Plans a number of ways; here is a summary of the options with prices shown in the table below.

In Full / over 12 months – As with most plan providers this payment option is the cheapest way to buy a funeral plan. When spreading your payments over 12 months you won’t incur any additional fees but you do need to pay a £250 minimum deposit up front.

Instalments – Golden Leaves offer instalments over longer periods of between 1 and 5 years all with a minimum deposit of £250

Fixed Monthly Payment Plan – Available for anyone between the ages of 50 and 75. You pay a fixed amount per month which is based on your age and the level of service you require and a £25 deposit. You are covered for your funeral services after just one year, which is sooner than all other funeral plan providers who offer this payment type but you need to pay your premiums either for life or until the anniversary date of your plan prior to your 90th birthday.

How secure is the Golden Leaves Plan

Golden Leaves is registered with and regulated by the Funeral planning Authority so therefore has to comply with their strict rules and code of conduct on the service you receive and most importantly how the money is held.

For all payment options apart from the fixed monthly payment plan, your money is paid into the Golden Leaves Trust which is a completely separate legal entity to Golden Leaves, so if anything happened your money would be protected.

With the Fixed Monthly Payment option, your money is paid into a life insurance plan which is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

Golden Leaves Company - Review

Golden Leaves was launched in 1984 and now offers its funeral plans both nationally and internationally. In addition to their international funeral plan serving expats living in Spain, Portugal or Cyprus, Golden Leaves also offer a Green Funeral Plan for those looking for an eco friendly funeral service.

Our Verdict

Golden Leaves now fully guarantee the cremation fees on 4 of their plan which is great news however some of the cheaper options do come with limitations meaning your family could possibly have more to pay, making it a bit of a false economy. For example with the Copper plan, there are no fees for collection if you were to die in hospital but transportation from home or a nursing home comes with an additional cost of £250.

The information also states that although the Golden Leaves funeral plan prices are based on the UK average, funeral costs do vary throughout the UK so certain regions may charge more. The whole point of buying a funeral plan is to avoid these variations in funeral costs which makes this clause all the more troubling.

Finally, the number of funeral plans Golden Leaves offer and the subtle differences can make choosing the right plan slightly confusing, so do compare the differences closely.
